The Problem: When heading to the poles on Election Day it can be difficult to understand the legal language used in the Amendment descriptions listed on the ballot, which can cause confusion, frustration and potentially voting decisions made without adequate information.
The Goal: I will be taking inspiration and attempting to combine resources from The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana voter guide website and the Geaux Vote App to attempt to bring all of the pertinent information together into a singular app, that is easy for voters to use.
My Role: This is an individual project after completing my UX Google Design Certificate to further hone my skills throughout the UX Design process.

Persona
Name/Pronouns: Lucille Zeringue (She/Hers) Age: 46 Hometown: Breaux Bridge, LA Occupation: Hairdresser & small business owner Family: Husband and 13-year-old daughter "I don't have a lot of time to research every amendment on the ballot before I get to the poles. I am lucky if I can get away from work long enough to vote at all. I always try to find out about the candidates, but the wording of the amendments really stresses me out." Problem Statement: Lucille is struggling to coordinate getting to the poles to vote while juggling running her own business, in addition to finding the time to decode the wording of the amendments on the ballot. This leaves her frustrated and feeling vulnerable that she may pick something that she doesn't agree with simply due to a lack of understanding. |
Goal Statement: The responsive web app Decoder will let users find helpful and simplified descriptions of the amendments on the ballot, while also providing information about nearest voting locations, and other useful resources for Election Day without providing any political bias.

User Painpoints:
User Painpoints:
- Users want confirmation email about absentee request submissions and voter registration forms
- Users are confused about how to site is able to initially locate their information for the voter profile page
- Users desire easier access to just edit one article of information on the voter profile, instead of having to resubmit the entire voter application form
- Users need notifications when Election Day is approaching (option to save calendar dates to phone)
- Users had trouble navigating to the search function page
- Users were confused by the optional photo on voter profile page, would that autofill from driver's license?
- Users were concerned about privacy of information considering this is not a government run responsive web app
- Users questioned whether final information, specifically candidate profiles, would be politically neutral

Conclusions:
Integrating government forms into a Responsive Web App could streamline and support the voting process, making it more accessible from virtually any location. However, this could come with risks in terms of information security and would need the support of federal agencies.
Voting is a right in the United States and it would be beneficial if there was a way for all Americans to have the pertinent information in one location to plan ahead for Election Day so that they can make their decisions about the future of the country with confidence.
I also think that adding a version of the "I Voted" sticker within that App that could be shared on social meida is something that may appeal to younger generations, who spend a lot of their time engaging with their community online.
